Atletico de Madrid visits a Real Sociedad with water up to their necks

They’re one of the historical teams of La Liga, but this season began a bit twisted for them and they haven’t been able to straighten their path. Real Sociedad finds themselves up to their necks in quicksand and the match against Atletico de Madrid is one of their last chances at salvation. Javier Aguirre’s team, after receiving Levante at home, visits Anoeta Stadium, where they need to earn the three points to remain in the upper zone of the standings. Real and Atleti have faced each other 57 times in San Sebastián, with 30 victories for the locals, 14 ties and 13 Atletico victories. In these matches, Real has scored a total of 90 goals, while Atletico has put in 59. In the first round match between the two teams, Real Sociedad came away from Vicente Calderon Stadium with a point, and came very close to winning. Lotina’s team went on top in the first half with a goal from Gari Uranga and Ansotegi scored an own goal in the 77th minute in a match in which Atleti found themselves suffocated from the get go. Last season, Atletico de Madrid lost in incredible fashion at Anoeta, as they went ahead 0-2 in the first half only to end up losing by a final score of 3-2.
